We had been optimistic that we could get tickets at the gate, but they were sold out. There were 50,000 people there. So we had plenty of company, and it wasn’t like there was nothing to do in the festival ambiance surrounding a Grateful Dead show.
There were scalpers selling tickets, and panhandlers with plastic cups scrambled to collect enough to buy them. They got coins, occasionally bills, candy, and bottle caps redeemable for some promotional thing.
There were fields full of cars parked on the grass where people sold
